Terpenes

Terpenes and the cannabis experience

Use terpene names to ask better questions about a product.

The basics

A chemical profile can describe compounds present in a tested sample. It is more precise than treating a strain name as a complete description. It still does not tell you exactly how an individual will feel.

What the evidence means

“Entourage effect” refers to proposed interactions among compounds. The term is not a universal guarantee: receptor experiments have not supported every proposed interaction, and findings depend on the method and compounds tested.

A useful question

What was measured, and does the evidence describe cells, animals, people, or this actual product?

Sources and further reading

Use the sources to check the scope of each claim. A chemical measurement, a laboratory experiment and a study in people answer different questions.
